It’s been a while since I got back from Butt Lite 7, and I thought it would be a great idea for the two of us to take a nice Sunday ride to West Virginia. The Northern Virginia weather forecast was for hot and humid conditions, with severe thunderstorms starting in the evening hours and continuing through the night. Those are all great excuses for a ride to higher elevations.
I took all of the rally gear off the bike (including the tank bag) – we were running about as light as we can, while still carrying some tools. It was nice to ride that way today, after riding heavy during the work-ups to Butt Lite 7 and the ride itself.
We shoved off around 0930 (after checking the satellite weather again), and headed in the general direction of Romney, WV. We didn’t have a plan (other than to have a nice ride), so didn’t have any specific locations to visit. I thought we might have lunch around Romney, but we were both hungry when we passed through Winchester, so we had a nice Sunday brunch at Village Market & Bistro in Old Town Winchester. The food was really good.
After lunch, we continued west along U.S. 50. We received a tornado watch on the satellite weather receiver when we were just east of U.S. 220. I checked the map quickly, and the watch extended east to the point where U.S. 220 and U.S. 50 meet. So, it was a nice nudge to head north on U.S. 220, then east on I-68. We stayed well ahead of the bad weather and made it back at a decent hour.
It was a great ride!
